Fallout 4 Modern Firearms 2.6.9
Feature: Fallout 4 — Modern Firearms 2.6.9
5. Distribution & Enemy Use
- Leveled list injection: Raiders, Gunners, Triggermen, and Brotherhood soldiers spawn with MF weapons.
- Tiered enemies: Low-level enemies may use worn, low-tier guns (like a rusty M16), while high-level Gunners carry tricked-out SCARs or M4s.
- Boss uniques: Some named enemies have guaranteed custom-named MF guns.
Stability and Performance
- File Size: The mod is exceptionally large (several gigabytes) due to uncompressed high-resolution textures and detailed meshes.
- Performance Impact: On older hardware, the mod can cause stuttering in the inventory menu due to the high-resolution preview images.
- Scripting: The mod relies heavily on scripts for holstering animations and weapon features. While version 2.6.9 was generally stable, it is known to contribute to save game bloat if not managed carefully.
Cons
- Very High Damage (Even on “Balanced” Mode) – By default, most rifles kill unarmored enemies in 1–2 shots. You will die constantly early game. Enemies with MF weapons become terrifying. Recommended to reduce global damage via the holotape or a separate damage mod.
- Overwhelming Loot Spam – Raiders and gunners drop MF weapons and rare ammo frequently, which devalues the loot economy and makes vanilla weapons obsolete.
- Ammo Scarcity vs. Weight – Ammo is realistic (sold in small quantities, expensive) but also heavy (if using optional ammo weight). Forces you to manage ammo types carefully.
- No Legendary Effect Support by Default – MF weapons rarely spawn as legendary. There are patches, but without them, you miss out on that gameplay loop.
- Performance Hit – High-poly models and 4K textures can cause stuttering on mid-range PCs, especially in downtown Boston.
- Outdated Compared to MF 3.x – 2.6.9 lacks newer weapons, visual overhauls, and some bug fixes from v3. However, v3 requires all DLC and is heavier.
Known issues (typical for major weapon mods)
- Occasional animation clipping or mismatched reloads.
- Some weapons may lack unique NPC AI usage or have improper vendor/loot spawn rates.
- Potential crashes or missing textures if dependencies aren't installed.
C. Ballistics and Sound
The mod overhauls the feel of combat. It moves away from "sponge" damage (where enemies take many hits) towards a more lethal model.
- Damage Model: Weapons generally deal much higher damage than vanilla counterparts, often killing low-level enemies in 1-3 shots.
- Audio: Features high-quality, recorded sound effects for suppressed and unsuppressed firing, mechanical sounds (bolt actions, trigger clicks), and reloads.
