Safety and ESD

  • Work on a powered-off, battery-removed system unless measuring live signals.
  • Use ESD protection when handling the motherboard.
  • Take photos before disconnecting cables to preserve original routing.

Scenario B: Fans spin, but no display / no beeps

  • The culprit: You shorted the motherboard incorrectly, or the CMOS needs resetting.
  • Fix: Unplug all front panel connectors. Use a flathead screwdriver to touch Pin 2 and Pin 4 simultaneously. If the PC turns on, your case switch is broken. If it doesn't, the board or PSU is dead.
