If you still carry a Nokia E72, N8, or 808 PureView, you know the struggle. The official Facebook app for Symbian was abandoned nearly a decade ago (v. 10.0). Trying to log in today gives you the dreaded “Session expired” or “Invalid API key” error.

But the community refuses to let S60v3, S60v5, and Symbian^3 die. Thanks to a new repacked version (v. 10.1.9.Rev7) hitting the repositories this week, we have the most functional Facebook experience on Symbian since 2015.

How It Works (The Technical Lift)

To install the repack, you cannot use the Nokia Ovi Store (shut down in 2015). Instead, users perform a "hack" called Symbian Anna CFW (Custom Firmware). This disables platform security. Then, they copy the Facebook_Repack_v10.sisx to their memory card.

The installation is tense. A progress bar slowly fills over 90 seconds. If you see "Certificate error - Contact the application vendor" , you forgot to install the Patch_SSL_2023.rmp first.

Once running, the app shaves off 90% of modern Facebook’s bloat. No Reels. No Marketplace. No Avatars. It shows:

• News Feed (text and photos only)
• Messenger (no reactions, just send/recieve)
• Notifications (basic red dot)

Latency is brutal. Loading the feed takes 11 seconds on 3G. But for the 15,000 daily active Symbian users tracked by a small Telegram group called "Symbian Legacy" , those 11 seconds are a victory lap.

Keeping the Spirit Alive

Why go through all this trouble? For nostalgia? Partly. But also because Symbian devices are still incredible pieces of engineering. The Nokia E7’s keyboard, the N8’s camera, and the E52’s month-long battery life have no modern equivalent. Being able to check Facebook on these devices feels like a rebellion against planned obsolescence.

The latest Facebook app for Symbian repack is more than software; it’s a digital preservation project. Every new repack extends the life of these orphaned phones by another six months or a year.

The Official Abandonment

To understand the repack, you must first understand the fall. In 2014, Facebook officially pulled the plug on its Symbian app. The final version (v5.0) was a buggy, slow, HTML-wrapper that crashed whenever it saw a GIF. For five years, the 50 million remaining Symbian users were told to "use the mobile site."

But the mobile site died too. In 2020, Facebook’s progressive web app (PWA) dropped support for the ancient WebKit browser on Symbian Belle. Users were met with a stark white screen reading: "Your browser is no longer supported."

For most, that was the end. For a small group of hobbyists in Russia, Vietnam, and Finland, it was a challenge.
