This is a Minecraft Alpha v1.2.6_01 feature summary.
This version is from late November 2010, just before the Halloween Update (Alpha 1.2.0) and shortly after its bugfix patches.

3. New Mob: The Lurker

This is the flagship mob of the update. It is designed to induce the specific paranoia common in Alpha versions. minecraft alpha 1.2.6-01

• Appearance: A tall, black figure with glowing white eyes (distinct from the Herobrine myth, more like a shadow). It crawls on all fours.
• Behavior:
  • It does not attack immediately. It follows the player from a distance (16 blocks), staying just at the edge of the render fog.
  • If the player looks directly at it, it vanishes in a puff of smoke (zips away).
  • It only attacks if the player's health drops below 3 hearts or if the player turns their back to run.
• Drop: Shadow Dust. Used to craft "Blindness Arrows" (a new arrow type that creates smoke particles on impact).

Technical Changes (Authentic Alpha Feel)

To keep the spirit of Alpha 1.2.6 alive, this content comes with specific technical quirks: This is a Minecraft Alpha v1

1. The "Lightning Bug": During a thunderstorm, lighting updates may fail, causing chunks to remain in total darkness even during the day. Hostile mobs can spawn in these "Shadow Chunks."
2. Minecart Physics: Restores the "Powered Rail Boost" glitch where a minecart hitting a mob at high speed sends the mob flying into the sky (Y: 500+).
3. Fog Tweaker: Adds a slider for "Void Fog," allowing players to intensify the darkness at lower levels.

2. Getting Started (First 10 Minutes)

Phase 4 – Mid-Game Goals

• Build a rail system (gold + iron) – minecarts work but booster rails don’t exist (use “booster cart” trick with a second cart).
• Explore for clay (near water) → bricks.
• Make painting (8 sticks + 1 wool) and book (3 paper + 1 leather) – books only for decoration.
• No enchanting, no anvils, no potions.

First Tools (Wood → Stone)

1. Craft a wooden pickaxe (3 planks + 2 sticks).
2. Mine cobblestone (3–6 blocks).
3. Upgrade to stone tools (better durability, faster).
4. Build a stone axe for faster wood gathering.

Spawn Basics

• You spawn with nothing. Punch trees (left-click hold).
• No hunger – Eat porkchops, mushrooms, bread instantly to heal hearts.
