Resource & Money Management
- Spend on essential gear and key facility upgrades first.
- Sell redundant low-tier gear to fund important purchases.
- Complete bonus objectives and optional battles for extra gold.
1.1 Action Points (AP) – Your Most Precious Resource
Unlike MP or stamina, Rance IX uses a shared party-wide AP pool. Every skill a character uses costs AP. You start with a limited max AP (usually 3-5) and regenerate only a portion each turn. rance ix guide
- Golden Rule: Do not waste AP on weak attacks. You want "kills per AP" or "debuffs per AP."
- Regeneration: Always check who has the "AP Regen" passive. Characters like Rick Addison regenerate more AP per turn than mages.
Chapter 4: The Bridge Battle
- Boss: General Gorrie (Heavy Armor).
- Problem: He has "Damage Cut" (reduces all damage by 100).
- Solution: You need Armor Break (Rick has this) or Magic. Shizuka’s magic ignores his armor. Do not waste physical attacks.
- CP Choice: When asked "What do you do with the captured general?" – Choose "Spare him" for a special weapon later.
Chapter 1: The Escape
- Objective: Reach the exit.
- Tutorial Tip: The game explains Overwatch. Follow it exactly.
- Hidden Item: In the top-left prison cell, there is an "Elixir." Use Rance to break the door.
For Advanced Play:
- Mode Stacking: Learn which characters build "Mode" fastest. Triggering a character's Mode at the start of a boss fight can decimate the enemy's HP bar in a single turn using chain specials.
- Line of Sight Manipulation: Use corners to break enemy line of sight. Ranged enemies cannot shoot what they cannot see. Move units just out of range, then dash in to attack.
- Food Events: Using the "Food" items during Event Phases is the primary way to boost stats permanently. Prioritize giving food to your main combatants (Rance, Rolex, Patton).
Early Game Tips (Chapters 1–5)
- Prioritize building a balanced core: tank, DPS, healer.
- Finish side missions for extra recruits and equipment.
- Focus on upgrading weapon/armor for main units rather than many weak ones.
- Learn enemy patterns—ambushes often punish overextension.
- Save before important battles; use manual saves to retry tough encounters.
How Turns Work
- The Timeline: At the top of the screen is a turn order bar. Speed (AGI) determines who acts when.
- The Command Phase: When a character's portrait reaches the "Action" point, you give them a command.
- The Move Phase: The character executes the command instantly. However, moving across the battlefield takes time (ticks). A melee fighter might take 5 ticks to run to an enemy, meaning their next turn will be delayed.
