Guide: Register ECID FRP File

Abstract

Factory Reset Protection (FRP) on iOS devices (via Activation Lock) ties a device to the owner’s Apple ID. Bypassing this lock often requires manipulating the Electronic Chip ID (ECID) and a corresponding FRPFile — a token-like artifact used in some recovery tools. This paper formalizes the concept of “registering ECID with FRPFile,” detailing the procedural, cryptographic, and security implications. We propose a structured method for pairing ECID values with FRPFiles in a local database to facilitate controlled activation bypass under specific forensic or recovery scenarios. Ethical and legal boundaries are discussed.

2.3 Registration

  • Local association of ECID → FRPFile metadata (validity period, device model, iOS version).
  • Enables replay attacks against the activation lock mechanism.

Paid Services (Octopus, Z3X, Chimera)

  • Success Rate: 99% (up to Android 13).
  • Cost: $10-25 one-time credit purchase.
  • Time: 2 minutes.
  • Verdict: Best for repair shops and serious users.

2.1 ECID (Exclusive Chip ID)

  • Permanent, factory-programmed identifier.
  • Used by Apple to generate activation tickets (SCY, SHSH blobs).
  • Required for any APTicket or BBTicket validation.
