Rtgi - 0.17.0.2
1. What is RTGI 0.17.0.2?
RTGI is a post-processing shader for ReShade that simulates realistic light bouncing using screen-space ray tracing.
Version 0.17.0.2 is one of the last free, open-source builds before the developer moved to a newer paid version (RTGI 1.0+).
It works on any DirectX 9–12 / Vulkan / OpenGL game but has known performance & compatibility limits.
Key features:
- Diffuse & specular global illumination
- Screen-space ray tracing (no temporal stability in this version)
- Adjustable bounce count (1–4)
- Roughness & metallic support
7. Known Issues & Limitations
| Issue | Cause / Fix |
|-------|-------------|
| Flickering / noise | No temporal denoise in 0.17 – increase Ray Length / reduce Intensity |
| Light leaks through walls | Screen-space limitation – accept or reduce Ray Length |
| No effect in cutscenes | Depth buffer disabled by game – no fix |
| Double shadows | Game uses own SSAO + RTGI AO – disable game’s AO |
| Laggy UI when RTGI on | ReShade + RTGI is single-threaded – toggle RTGI off in UI | rtgi 0.17.0.2
5. Depth Buffer Troubleshooting
B. Depth Buffer Clarity
A persistent issue with screen-space ray tracing is the "halo effect" around objects near the edge of the screen. Version 0.17.0.2 implements a Mipmap-based depth threshold. This reduces edge flickering by 40%, as measured by community benchmarks. rtgi 0.17.0.2
1. Grand Theft Auto V (Legacy Modding)
The sprawling cityscapes of Los Santos suffer from flat, pre-baked lighting in the vanilla game. RTGI 0.17.0.2 adds incredible bounce lighting inside alleyways and car interiors. The new temporal stability ensures helicopter blades don't turn into a blurry mess. rtgi 0.17.0.2
