Part 7: Troubleshooting – Why Your Import Failed
You tried the YouTube subscriptions importer, but it broke. Here is the fix.
Error: "Cannot read property 'length' of undefined" Cause: The exporter couldn't find your subscription list
- Cause: The exporter couldn't find your subscription list because you were on the wrong page.
- Fix: Make sure you are on
youtube.com/feed/channels(the grid view), not the home page.
Error: "Rate limit exceeded"
- Cause: You tried to import 500 channels in 10 seconds. YouTube blocked the requests.
- Fix: All good importers have a "delay" slider. Set it to 3000ms (3 seconds). Walk away for 15 minutes.
Error: "Channel ID malformed"
- Cause: You exported your Watch Later or Liked Videos list by accident.
- Fix: Re-run Google Takeout and ensure ONLY "subscriptions" is checked.
How to Import Subscriptions: Copy Subscribed Channels to Another YouTube Account
Switching to a new YouTube account often feels like moving to a new house. You leave behind your history, playlists, and—most frustratingly—your carefully curated list of subscriptions.
Manually hitting the "Subscribe" button on 200+ channels is a nightmare. So, how do you transfer them? While YouTube doesn't offer a direct "Copy" button, you can export your subscriptions and import them into a new account using a combination of Google Takeout and a free online tool. Error: "Rate limit exceeded"
Here is the only reliable method to copy your subscriptions from one YouTube account to another.
Step 1: Export your Subscriptions via Google Takeout
- Go to takeout.google.com.
- Deselect all products. Click "Deselect all."
- Scroll down and select "YouTube and YouTube Music."
- Within that option, click "All YouTube data included" and deselect everything EXCEPT "subscriptions."
- Click "OK" then "Next step."
- Choose Export type: "Send download link via email" (Zip file).
- Click "Create export."

Method 1: The Browser Extension Method (Fastest & Most Popular)
This method uses a dedicated Chrome/Firefox extension called "YouTube Subscription Manager" (by Sike) or "Subscriptions Exporter for YouTube" . We will use the most reliable one as of this writing. Error: "Channel ID malformed"
"The import tool says 'Subscribe' but nothing happens"
YouTube often rate-limits actions. If you try to subscribe to 500 channels in 5 seconds, YouTube will block the requests. Slow tools will add a 2-second delay between each subscribe.
